The Cat Empire

The Cat Empire

Mellen Events is proud to present Australia’s kings of real good, feel good roots pop, The Cat Empire, as they return to Perth this November at the picturesque Kings Park & Botanic Garden.

Still riding high on the success of their most recent studio album, ‘Stolen Diamonds’, which debuted at #4 on The ARIA album chart (their 6th top 10 album), the band will showcase this acclaimed material and revisit some of the enduring, and indeed endearing, classics that have secured their status as one of the world’s most beloved live acts.

The Cat Empire
will be joined by special guests Dan Sultan, Caravãna Sun and Grace Barbe.

Dan Sultan has been a singular musical presence in Australia since the release of his first album, 2006’s ‘Homemade Biscuits’, straddling genres and celebrating the diversity of his audiences. All the while, he’s also become one of the country’s most revered songwriters.

Sydney indie-surf rockers Caravãna Sun enjoyed a massive 2018 playing to thousands of people across the globe off the back of the game changing singles ‘Beauty & The Pain’ and ‘Come Back’ from the ‘Silver Linings EP’. 2019 is shaping up to be just as huge, with the band currently on a mammoth European summer tour.

Also along for the ride is Grace Barbe, a genuinely exotic world music star for the 21st century, with the talent, face and voice to match.

In what is sure to be a triumphant performance, The Cat Empire will prove the long-standing rumour that they headline major festivals all over the world because no band is brave enough to take the stage after them.

Grace Barbe

Grace Barbe

Grace Barbe

Grace Barbe hails from the sunburnt Indian Ocean islands of the Seychelles, where a colourful history of slavery, pirates, coups d'etat and coconuts have produced a unique Kreol rhythm, language and culture. Drawing from the diverse cultural melange of the islands, Grace's music fuses the tropical rhythms and dances of the slaves with psychedelic rock, afrobeat, reggae and pop.

In performance the trio conjures a bewilderingly huge sound - Grace sings over her own complex polyrhythmic bass lines to Mauritian drummer Hardy Perrine's authentic island grooves while guitarist Jamie Searle adds a dense layer of Afro - guitar sorcery.

Grace has been enticing audiences to get up and shake their coconuts since the release of her debut album 'Kreol Daughter' in 2009, with appearances all over India, East Africa (Sauti za Busara Festival, Zanzibar) and the Indian Ocean (SakifoFestival, La Reunion) as well as at Australia's leading music festivals. Grace is preparing to release her new album, 'FANM : WOMAN' in 2019.
